MTG: Alpha Beta Poster Set. Magic The Gathering’s. Print run of 1,000. Think you have the most complete Magic The Gathering Collection? This is a promotional set of 3 poster set from the earliest days of Magic the Gathering. It depicts every card from the Alpha and Beta sets! It also includes: a twenty page booklet from Charity Fellowship (producers of the poster set) with complete card-list of the poster sets, as well as game text from the cards, and casting costs. Only a part of the poster is shown here. They are extra large (18 1/2″ X 24″) with each card and variant card duplicated at 2/3 normal size. Every card and variant card (the cards with the errors) from both the Alpha and the Beta sets is depicted. The cards are grouped by color. Each poster was professionally laminated. They were made in Rochester New York at the RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) Center for imaging science by a group calling itself’The Charity Fellowship. The posters specifically state, Authorized by Wizards of the Coast, Inc, for donation to, the Charity Fellowship. It was produced in the early 90’s just after Beta edition came out. The booklet is subtitled independent Catalog, Commentary, Critique, and Review Authorized and Licensed by Wizards of the Coast for donation to the Charity Fellowship. Special note from egor – There was always questions about the reality of the “The Charity Fellowship” being a real charity or simply a method to allow David Moore (whom we called “Reverend Magic”) to sell magic cards. Reverend Moore IS a’certified’ minister although I do not know what religious order. He DID sell single Magic cards (lots of them) during this time period. He DID sell that telephone number printed on the poster later on for a significant sum. He DID receive real permission from Wizards of the Coast to produce and distribute these posters (even though’formal’ permission was received after they were printed). The rest, we may never know. These were a real product, professionally produced and licensed. Only about a thousand of these were ever made and they are, I believe, the VERY FIRST licensed Magic The Gathering(tm) product EVER produced. I know this to be true. My store was active in Rochester at the time, I knew Rev. Moore personally and I know some of the other people involved in the creation of these unique pieces. Crazy Egor’s is noted in the acknowledgement and three of my employees wrote pieces for the booklet. I have the color proofs and color roughs from their printing in my personal collection. This set was produced with both color cover and black & white cover booklets. This set with color covers was given to me by Rev. Moore to satisfy a debt and have sat quietly in my warehouse for the last decade. I would be happy to send you detailed scans of part of the posters or answer any additional questions you may have.
